    • Bette Budd Beane

Wilmington - Age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Wilmington Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

Bette was born on January 26, 1932 in Meriden, CT. She was daughter to the late Arthur J. and Barbara (nee Wheeler) Budd. Bette was a long-time resident of Kennett Square, PA, where she chose to make a home for her family over 40 years ago and where she remained until 2015.

After studying art in Meriden, CT, Bette ultimately established a career in finance, where she worked with long-time friend and business partner, Charles Benzel for over 40 years until they retired from Wachovia Securities in 2009.

Bette was unconditionally and unreservedly devoted to her family; her familial duties occupied most of her free time. Whether she was scribing a handwritten note, calling family members, or conducting unannounced visits, Bette's priority was always her family.

Aside from her quick and winning smile, which she shared with nearly everyone, Bette had an amazing sense of humor that was reserved for a select few people. Bette also had a great appreciation for local artists, particularly the work of Peter Sculthorpe. At one time, Bette's collection of local art was noteworthy and a point of pride for her. Animals also played a special part in Bette's life; she enjoyed the company of cats, dogs, and maintained a working stable of horses at her home for a period.

In addition to her parents, Bette was predeceased by her husband, Harry Beane; two sons, Harry "Chip" Beane and Budd Beane; and brother, Jay Budd (Marjorie). Bette is survived by her grandsons, Paul Beane (Debbie), Christopher Banks, and Brian Seeber (Katrina); five great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
