  According to the family Bible, he was born about 5:00 in the morning. On 12 May 1797, he purchased from his cousin, Thomas Havey, a tra ct of land containing one hundred fifty acres and forty perches situat ed in Birmingham Township in Delaware Co. PA. Apparently his father had ad vanced him the money to buy this property as his share of his father's est ate. He later purchased additional prosperities until he had six hundred a cres of land in Birmingham Township. He built a fine residence on this pro perty and lived there until his death. According to William Booth Harvey: "Eli Harvey fell in love with Rac hel Hollingsworth, and took his cousin, Thomas Harvey, to see her, and f or his approval. The result of this visit was that Thomas Harvey supersed ed Eli Harvey in her affections, and Thomas Harvey and Rachel Hollingswor th were married in the year 1802." He acquired the home known as Washington's Headquarters on 5 Oct. 180 5, from the heirs of the estate of Benjamin Ring. It had been a licensed i nn or hotel. William Booth Harvey states that the four children of Eli Harvey a nd Mary Painter were born in Washington's Brandywine Headquarters. One source gives his date of death as 10th of the 9th month 1846 at a ge 73 years, 2 months, and 12 days. (Taken from Nancy E. Almond's notes)
